For those of you interested in helping us with fieldwalking this autumn and winter we will be offering a free workshop in finds identification on Sunday 19th October, 2-5pm at the University of Leicester, in the Ogden Lewis Seminar Suite, Fielding Johnson South Wing at the back of the David Wilson Library. Light refreshments in the form of afternoon tea will be provided and parking will be available on the main University campus.
The training will be led by Peter Liddle, former Leicestershire County Archaeologist and leader of the Leicestershire Fieldworkers. Peter has forty years of archaeological experience and will be guiding you through the basic principles of fieldwalking and finds identification. You will have the opportunity to handle archaeological finds spanning thousands of years of human activity and will learn how to distinguish pottery from different periods and spot whether a piece of flint is natural or worked. Those that came last year enjoyed the session and found it a useful introduction to Leicestershire finds.
